ABOUT

AIMS AND OPERATING MODE

The goal of the Interdisciplinary Research Group (IAG) Nutrition, Health, Prevention is to analyse the future of our food and its role in nutrition and disease prevention, in order to make urgently needed recommendations for action in selected areas to scientists, society and politicians. While maintaining a holistic view of health ("One Health"), three specific thematic foci will be addressed: (1.) the future of food production and food quality, especially in the context of climate and socioeconomic change, (2.) the future role of food and nutrition for human health and in disease prevention and (3.) the complexity of cultural, social, educational, political and legal factors that currently influence, have influenced and can further influence the relationships between nutrition, behavior, and health. Our aims and achievements will be presented to the interested public and to political decision-makers through a series of events. In addition, concrete research needs will be identified and recommendations for action in politics and the science will be developed.

The IAG Nutrition, Health, Prevention focuses on three closely related key topics:

  1. The future of our food and the potential of optimized food products (lead by Ralph Bock).
  2. The complex interrelations between nutrition, medical science, health, and disease prevention (lead by Tilman Grune).
  3. Aspects of the humanities and social sciences as well as cultural, behavioral, political and legal aspects that are particularly relevant to the future of human nutrition and its comprehensive integration into health care, disease prevention and therapy in Germany (lead by Annette Grüters-Kieslich and Georg Seifert).
